| A Remembered Fireplace Dedicated to the Mayer Homestead There's a certain something about the place I'm baffled at trying to name it Tho' folks and home alike forever Are eagerly seeking to claim it. Substantial in structure and comfortable But there are homes more lavish to be sure Yet to traveler, neighbor and friend alike There's something akin to allure. When of lessor pretentions it was never so In meager pioneer days "The latch string was out and the pot a-boil" And we danced as we sang our lays. There's a certain something about the place Something within the heart of it And all who gathered around that hearth Have carried away a part of it. -Vola Ruth Martin |
